going to pre-emptively say that i still have not actually settled on one of these, because i want to be where my friends are! but, also: a lot of my friends aren't readers. also i'm not listing goodreads because it's goodreads. you know what goodreads is.

atproto book spaces

  • bookhive | me

    • actually pretty cute. i like bees.

    • a couple of my books didn't import from storygraph, but i found them and added them pretty easily.

    • charmed by it saying i was the first person to list a book.

  • paperbnd | me

    • it's the popfeed one.

    • review focused? maybe.

    • i don't know if my import worked.

  • bibliome | me

    • this is focused on reading lists.

    • i could see myself using this to find that thing i'm craving y'know.

the other parts of the internet i guess

  • storygraph | me

    • pretty rounded out imo.

    • i like the filters a lot.

  • bookwyrm | me

    • i want to love this one. i need to go back to it.

    • i think it didn't have some of the books i read at the time, so i shelved it for the time being.

  • hardcover | actually idk if i joined this one

    • for some reason, i never tried this one.

    • up for trying whatever, wherever the friends are!

  • librarything | also this

    • same as above; i kind of like the vibe of this though.

  • fable | me

    • probably the most polished of them all.

    • and tied with storygraph for the most popular among friends.

    • it's got the spotify wrapped vibe, though at this point i don't know if that's a compliment or not. it scratches some itches in my brain.

    • i did break it trying to reset my password though. lol.

    • the TBR bingo challenges are cool, but i wish they were built into the app itself.

    • big community, as far as i can tell.

  • literal | me

    • aesthetically i love this one. it's also got my favourite title of them all.

    • pretty similar visually to storygraph.

    • it works! it does its job!

actually, all of them do, and all of them look really nice, which is part of my problem!

so now what

good question. i don't know which one to stick with, and have largely just been updating them when i remember. i'm up for suggestions though.

for me, the more statistics, the more filters and tags when searching for things to read, and ways to connect with your friends are what i'm looking for. community challenges are a bonus, and of course, so are the monthly/yearly reading challenges.

anyway, i'm outtie.
